Two royal honours for Fairtrade Pioneers

Bruce Crowther, whose campaigning work on Fairtrade led to the founding of the Fairtrade Towns movement, and Sophi Tranchell, Managing Director of Fairtrade chocolate company Divine Chocolate, have each been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List. They will receive their awards from a member of the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace some time during 2009.
London, The Fairtrade Capital of the world

Today, Thursday 23 October 2008, Londoners will have more choice than ever before when it comes to selecting Fairtrade in the nation’s capital, as London becomes the world’s largest Fairtrade City. Hundreds of businesses have signed up to the campaign, meaning that Londoners will never again have to go far to buy Fairtrade.
Fairtrade Foundation welcomes DFID survey: “Vindication of years of campaigner’s vision”

The Fairtrade Foundation welcomes the results of the Department for International Development (DFID) survey released today, showing people are increasingly recognizing they can use their shopping power as a way to help tackle poverty in the developing world. The Fairtrade Foundation believes the findings are a tribute to the thousands of campaigners who have tirelessly spread the Fairtrade message, encouraging others to make positive consumer choices to buy Fairtrade products.
